    A sampling of seminars, fundraisers and concerts in Carroll County.


    Sunday 07-12

    Ice cream Sunday Union Mills Homestead, 3311 Littlestown Pike, Westminster, will hold its annual Ice Cream Sundae Social on Sunday, 1 to 4 p.m., on the homestead grounds. The Littlestown Municipal Band will provide music throughout the afternoon. There will also be face painting, a clown and wagon rides around the grounds. Tours of the historic Shriver Homestead and Grist Mill will be available for a fee. Call 410-848-2288.

    Storm into Westminster Westminster's annual Month of Sundays summer concert series continues on Sunday, 6:45 to 9:15 p.m. with the group, Sound Storm, which features Motown, R&B, rock and funk music. The free concert is held at Westminster City Park, 11 Longwell Ave., Westminster. Bring lawn chairs and blankets for seating. Food and beverages will be sold. Donations of personal care items for all ages, baby food, diapers, formula, paper goods or cleaning supplies will be collected for Human Services Programs of Carroll County Inc.     Monday 07-13

    'Oliver' on screen The Carroll Arts Centers' Monday Movie Musical series continues on Monday with a free showing of the 1968 film, "Oliver," beginning at 7 p.m. at the center, 91 W. Main St., Westminster. Rated G. Refreshments will be available. Sponsored by Rooney's Corner Cafe. Call 410-848-7272.

    Tuesday 07-14

    Rockin' summer Mount Airy Library, 705 Ridge Avenue, Mount Airy, will host a practice session for the Wii game, "Rock Band," at 2 p.m. for ages 11 to 17, then a Rock Band Tournament at 3 p.m. Participants will compete against other bands or solo acts. Prizes will be awarded to the winning act. This program is sponsored by the Woodbine Recreation Council. Call 410-386-4470.

    Getting graphic "Drawing Comics and Manga" is a program for ages 11 to 17 at the Finksburg Library, 2265 Old Westminster Pike, Finksburg, beginning at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday. The session is a beginner's course in drawing for comic books, graphic novels and manga. Learn and practice some basic tips and techniques. Supplies will be provided, so come prepared to draw. Teens can earn Library Bucks for attending. Call 410-386-4488.

    Struggle for Carroll The process of forming Carroll County was a major political controversy during the first four decades of the 1800s. During the next Box Lunch Talk, sponsored by the Historical Society of Carroll County, former state delegate Joe Getty will discuss the 19th century process that led to the creation of Carroll County in 1837. Tuesday, noon to 1 p.m., Carroll Post 31, American Legion, Green and Sycamore streets, Westminster. Cost is $1 HSCC members; $4 non-members.     Magical visit "The Magic of Roger Lindsay" will be presented Wednesday in two shows, at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m., at the North Carroll Library, 2255 Hanover Pike (Route 30), Greenmount. Summer Reading ambassador Roger Lindsay and Prop, the Magic Bunny, will amaze and amuse in this show loaded with audience participation. Call 410-386-4488 for details.

    'Minutes' on film The Republican Women's Club of Carroll County will host a showing of the Heritage Foundation film, "33 Minutes" at 7 p.m. at the Westminster Senior Center, Stoner Avenue, Westminster Light refreshments will be served. RSVP at 410-840-9828.

    Thursday 07-16

    Denikos on deck Singer, songwriter and guitarist Tony Denikos will perform as part of the evening music concert series on Locust Lane, Westminster, hosted by Downtown Westminster Main Street. The concert is at 6 p.m. Bring a lawn chair or blanket. The Locust Lane Stage is located at 43 E. Main St. The series is co-sponsored by Coffey Music.     'Seussical' debut "Seussical" the musical, will be performed by TACTICC (The Arts Coming Together in Carroll County), a local troupe with members ages age 6 to 50-plus. on July 16, 17, 18, 23, 24 and 25 at 7 p.m., and matinees at 2 p.m. on July 18, and 25.     RedLine to Sykesville The group RedLine will perform at the Sykesville Concerts in the Park series on Friday, 7 to 9 p.m., at Millard Cooper Park, located on Springfield Avenue, in Sykesville.     Soiree in Taneytown Taneytown Library, 10 Grand Drive, Taneytown, will host a Fancy Nancy Gala at 1 p.m., for ages 4 to adult. For this soiree attendees may wear fancy clothes, tiaras and boas to celebrate the "Fancy Nancy" books by Jane O'Connor. Stories, crafts, food and fun. Call 410-386-4488.

    Saturday 07-18

    Fish are bitin' Piney Run Park, 30 Martz Road, Sykesville, will host its Lunar Linker II Morning Largemouth Bass Tournament on Saturday, starting at 7 a.m. The entry fee is $15. There's no vehicle fee, but the boat launch fee is $8. Rental boats are available for $20. Pre-register at 410-795-5165.

    Union encampment Union Mills Homestead will host a Civil War Encampment and Living History Weekend on Saturday and Sunday with camp drills, lectures, living history demonstrations, battles and church services. Tours of the Shriver Homestead and Grist Mill will be available for a fee. The Homestead is on Route 97 in Union Mills, north of Westminster. Call 410-848-2288.

    Faithful flea A flea market will be held 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., at Holy Spirit Lutheran Church, 2205 Old Liberty Road, Eldersburg. Call 410-795-3415.

    Gamber craft fair The Gamber and Community Fire Company, Niner Road, Gamber (off Route 32), will host a craft show and flea market on Saturday, 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. on the carnival grounds. Food, raffles, and 50/50 tickets. Vendor spaces are available. Call 410-795-1478.

    Oh Susannah! A musical program, "Oh, Susannah!," will be held at 10 a.m. North Carroll Library, 2255 Hanover Pike (Route 30), Greenmount. For all ages. Susannah sings old favorites and original songs to introduce different styles of music and dance, with acoustic guitar and the magic of her "music box."
