Both teams had stellar seasons, with the Century High School girls lacrosse team posting a 15-1 campaign and the Westminster High School girls recording a 16-2 record. But on the field this week at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County, the emotional outcome was decidedly different.

On May 20, Century High captured the 2A-1A state title with a 25-9 win over Patterson Mill. A day earlier, in a tough draw against powerhouse Severna Park, Westminster nearly pulled off a huge upset, falling just 7-5 in the 4A-3A championship.

Players from both squads can look back on the season with pride. The Owls won a share of the county championship with Liberty and Century; the Knights' season was highlighted by the play of senior Katie Schwarzmann, who recorded her 300th career goal and 100th of the season -- both in the final.
