In their first playoff game, the Raiders D Black squad upended the Westminster Wildcats, 15-0. The defense controlled the game, allowing only two Wildcats first downs. Leading tacklers were Michael Presley with eight (including five sacks), Jimmy Lucas with four (one sack) and Blake Kissinger and Harrison Trostle with three each.
Outstanding plays were turned in by Sam Ashe with two fumble recoveries and linemen Kevin Gicking, ChrisMaurantonio, Braden Lee, Wes Hamilton, Zach Frizzera and Sean Wolfe. Presley tackled the quarterback for a safety.
On offense, the Raiders controlled the ball. Leading rushers were Trostle with 61 yards (and a touchdown), Lucas with 57 (and a touchdown) and Joey Fusee with 20. Quarterback Luke Brandenburg added an extra point. Of note was the play of Vince Ferraris, Jake Rogers, Matt Haerbig and Blake Kissinger. Kissinger also added a catch of 14 yards, while Noah Chapman contributed a 25-yard kick return.
Sykesville Raiders 9-11
The 9-11 Raiders moved a step closer to a Super Bowl by beating the Elkridge Hurricanes, 26-12.
The offensive line of Hayden Foster, Jake Roach, Cole Gable, Jake Rubenstein, John Knox, Tom Whalen and Joe Bender dominated the Hurricane defensive line. Nick Gesualdi scored the first of the Raiders' four touchdowns on a pass from Tyler Webster to give the Raiders a 6-0 lead. On defense, the Raiders' Ryan Frye, Tayler Ryder, Justine Whittfelt, Kyle Costabile, Alex Vucco and Logan Harpine held the Hurricanes to few yards.
The Hurricanes had a 12-6 lead at the half, but the Raiders came out strong in the second half when Gesualdi sprang for 35 yards to bring the game even at 12-12. The next series opened with a bang. With the Hurricanes offense moving, safety Deion Minor picked off a pass and took it back 45 yards to give the Raiders the lead, 18-12.
Then with two minutes to go, Tyler Webster rolled out and hit Kyle Leonard in the flat for the fourth touchdown of the day and the 26-12 final.
This week the 9-11 Raiders take on the Howard County Terps for a berth in the 2008 MMYFCL Super Bowl.
Raiders B-2 Federal (Ferguson)
The Raiders topped the Patriots, 19-7, in their playoff opener. Randall Rill scored two of three Raider touchdowns, one on an 85-yard run, and also had an extra point. Chris Ricks tallied yardage and scored the other Raider touchdown.
Quarterback Connor Fenton handed off and passed accurately. Fumble recoveries were made by Hunter Price and Garrett Hamilton, and Vinny Oneto intercepted a pass and showed tremendous power with tackles. Tough defense was also displayed by Joey Lucas, Nathan Engle, Michael Ryan, Travis Smith and CJ Mackinson.
Raiders D-1 National (Tucker)
The Raiders wrapped up the season with a tough playoff loss to Urbana, 20-12, closing the season record at 6-4. Members of the Raiders team, with Dave Tucker as head coach, included Bryce Batson, Nick Bonomo, Cameron Collins, Jett D'Eugenio, Zach Dubbs, Blade Hansarik, Taylor Hodges, Spencer Kirin, Kevin McNulty, Scott Murri, Jack Myers, Tommy Parris, Anthony Perrone, Chris Rinehart, Alex Stefanick, Nate Tucker and Zach Tucker.
Highlights of the playoff included a 55-yard touchdown run by Collins, long runs by N. Tucker, two interceptions by Perrone, a fumble recovery by Bonomo, a pass block by Hansarik and great tackling by Parris, D'Eugenio, Myers, Batson and Dubbs.
Raiders Federal 6-8 Black
The Sykesville Raiders E3 Black team finished the season with a 5-3 record. The group effort of these young players was a testament to Head Coach Neil Jones and assistant coaches Tom Jones, Jim Rainey, Tim Tetzloff and Chris Carroll. The team learned the game of football, had fun and made friends. Credit also goes to Team Mom, Robin Usi, for keeping everyone organized, fed and hydrated.
Raiders 11-13 Federal
The Sykesville Raiders were defeated by the Ellicott City Patriots, 12-6, in the first round of the playoffs.
The Patriots scored two touchdowns on long runs in the first quarter. The Raiders got on the board in the second quarter when Cameron Forshee scored on a 62-yard run. The second half was controlled by defense as neither offense could sustain drives.
The Raiders defense was led by Travis Heffler, Bobby Summersgill, Ryan Lewis, Travis Keyser, Cesar Jimenez, Dan Hornberger and Tommy Flaherty. The Raiders end with a 4-5 record.
Raiders Silver 8-10 Federal
The Sykesville Raiders Silver 8-10 Federal team opened the playoffs with a 26-0 win over Howard County.
The defense contained the Terps' offense and forced four turnovers. Matt Shephard recovered two fumbles, Max Kirin recovered one and Paul Candland intercepted a pass.
The defense of Corey Lesko, Adam Lanni, Tommy Batson and Levi Custred controlled inside running game while Jared Cirulli, Austin Bromley, Kyle Hillman and Jake Kropinski controlled the outside.
The offensive line of Jordan Santis, Andrew Zahn, Cole Stambaugh, Johnathan Ashby, Matt Shephard and blocking of Tyler Madeira and Jake Hitchcock opened running lanes. Max Kirin had a great day as with three touchdowns. Quarterback Ryan Heim scored the other touchdown and rushed for more than 60 yards, with one touchdown pass of 20 yards.
Federal B Silver
In the playoff opener, Linganore couldn't stop the Raiders' seven-game winning streak, as Sykesville prevailed, 19-6. Justin Keller scored two touchdowns, Levi Robey ran for a touchdown and Keller scored one extra point. Brandon Harris and Adam Fetterman had fumble recoveries, and Keller had an interception.
