Theismann motivates Panthers over Patriots

For the second week in a row, the North Carroll Panthers 7-9 team (5-2) squeaked out a 12-8 win over the Ellicott City Patriots to win their fourth straight game, thus positioning them in second place of the MMYFCL's American Division.

After receiving a pre-game prep talk from former Washington Redskin quarterback Joe Theismann before a homecoming crowd at Christmas Tree Park, Panther running backs Miles Francis (43-yard touchdown), Logan Garland (5-yard touchdown) and Nick Fasick provided a well-balanced ground game.

Meanwhile, the quarterback duo of Graham Wunder and Zack Scott directed the air attack as they led the Panthers to the victory.

"Both our offense and defense did their thing again today," said Panther coach Greg Wunder.

"Mr. Joe (Theismann) and Coach Greg told us to play our best, not to overlook the Patriots and have fun," said Panther center Nick Crago.

On defense, the Panthers were led by Jacob Betz (three tackles), Miles Francis (five tackles), Nick Fasick (four tackles), Logan Garland (five tackles, one interception) and Noah Betz (one fumble recovery).

Upward basketball and cheer

Upward Basketball and Cheerleading is recruiting boys and girls from ages 5 to the seventh grade for the upcoming season. The Christian organization stresses teamwork and equal participation.

Late registration will be Saturday, Nov. 1, 9 a.m. to noon, at Westminster Baptist Church, 354 Crest Lane, Westminster. Prices are $70 for basketball and $75 for cheerleading.

Baseball skills clinic

The Westminster High School Athletic Boosters will host a girls and boys shooting clinic with the Westminster High boys basketball staff, for ages 8 to 17, on Sunday, Nov. 9, 1 to 4 p.m. in the main gym at Westminster High, 1225 Washington Road, Westminster
