This past Saturday was a special day for the 9-11 Raiders team. The players dedicated the game to Master Sgt. John Hornick, uncle of player Ryan Frye, who is serving in Iraq. Before the game each boy signed a Raiders jersey and wished him well on a video.
In the game, the Raiders moved the ball well, with Tayler Ryder scoring twice in the first half. The offensive line of Haydon Foster, Tom Whalen, Joey Bender, Deion Minor and Logan Harpine pushed up and down the field. Nick Gesualdi bounced into the end zone in the second quarter to give the Raiders a 18-0 lead at the half.
Ryan Frye started the second half with a 30-yard interception to set up a touchdown of 25 yards for Kyle Costibile. The defense held strong with great plays from John Knox, Jake Rubenstein, Cole Gable and Justin Whittfelt.
Jake Roach intercepted a Hawks pass and ran to the 5-yard line. Tyler Webster took over the offense and handed off to Kyle Leonard who took it the last five yards across the goal line to make it 33-0. The Raiders take on Winfield this week at 1 p.m. at Winfield.
Raiders Federal White
The Raiders Federal White team lost a tough battle to the North Carroll Panthers on Saturday, 13-0.
Highlights included Bret Barrett's punt, which led to Jeremy Wells forcing a fumble that was recovered by Alec Bosley. After another fine Barrett punt, David Burkhart recovered another fumble that was forced by a swarm of Raiders led by Travis Skora.
On defense, strong tackles from Hunter Hamlett and Michael McManus, blunted the Panther attack, and Nick Fiorelli intercepted a Panther pass.
The Raiders moved the ball behind runs from Toby Liska, Henry Seabrook and Jacob Housman, as well as a pass from Camden Tofil to Alec Pellicciotti.
In the second half, the Raiders saw tackles from Seabrook, McManus, AJ Miller, Hamlett and Burkhart. Behind the offensive line of CJ Sambuco, Jack Ryan, Bosley, Wells and McManus, the Raiders moved the ball upfield, until stopped by the Panthers defense.
Raiders 8-10 Silver
The Raiders 8-10 Silver team improved its record to 5-1 on Saturday by beating the Linganore Lancers 25-12.
Max Kirin scored all four Raider touchdowns. The offense saw great blocking from Jordan Santis, Adam Lanni, Cole Stambaugh, John Ashby and Matt Shephard. Quarterback Ryan Heim threw for more than 60 yards.
On defense, Kyle Hillman recovered one fumble and Heim intercepted a Linganore pass. Tommy Batson made several key tackles.
Sykesville Raiders A United
Raiders A United remained undefeated with a win over Urbana, 30-0. Matt Caillouet ran the kickoff back for 33 yards, then on the next play threw a pass to Logan Brennan for a touchdown.
The Raiders defense, led by Donnie Knox and Leland Johnson, held the Hawks to no gain, and Sean Twigg intercepted a pass.
Matt Pluta ran for a first down, then a touchdown for a 12-0 lead.
Joseph Adams and Chris Kircher covered on kickoffs. Zach Custred was a leading defender with four tackles. Caillouet threw a great pass to Spenser Ricks, and another to Justin Murphy for a touchdown.
A crushing sack was recorded by Matt Hunter and John Bender had three solid tackles.
Caillouet added a quarterback keeper for a touchdown, and Oscar Callejas capped a busy day kicking off.
Raiders B-2 Federal Ferguson
The Raiders dominated the Patriots until the fourth quarter when Ellicott City fought back with two touchdown runs. But it wasn't enough as the Raiders won, 20-12.
On offense, Randall Rill scored a touchdown, followed by quarterback CJ Mackinson scoring on a keeper and later a pass to Rill for the Raiders' third score. Extra points runs were made by Chris Ricks and Rill. The rushing of Ricks and Ryan Upton was aided by blocking of Michael Ryan and Casey McNulty. Defensive highlights included two fumble recoveries by Hunter Price and one by Buck Davies and key tackles by Garrett Hamilton, Alex Murri, Travis Smith, Mackinson, Ricks, Rill and Price.
Raiders D-1 National Tucker
The Raiders played tough against the Urbana Hawks, winning 26-13.
The Raiders defense was strong with Anthony Perrone intercepting a pass, Scott Murri and Zach Dubbs providing two sacks, Kevin McNulty adding one sack and Nick Bonomo, Cameron Collins, Tommy Parris and Alex Stefanick making key tackles.
Raider touchdowns were provided by quarterback Zach Tucker and three from Nate Tucker on long runs. Blocking by Blade Hansarik, Spencer Kirin and Perrone was exceptional. Stefanik added an extra point kick.
Raiders B Silver Federal
Reisterstown put up a good fight, but couldn't score enough against the Raiders defense in a 30-19 Sykesville victory. Justin Keller scored a 33-yard touchdown. Carter Robins made two touchdowns, one on a 51-yard run.
Jonathan Pierce caught a pass in the end zone, and Levi Robey kicked 3 extra points.
Sykesville E-Gold
Sykesville Gold faced Catonsville Blue on Oct. 11. Strong blocking by Brian Roche, Nick Leupen and Austin Leupen led to touchdown runs by Jalen Stanton, Bryson Shaw and an extra point by Blake Whisman
On defense, key tackles were made by Sami Khan, Justin Welsh and Ryan Luthe.
Raiders Pittbull Silver
The Raiders Pitbull Silver team took on the Reisterstown Mustangs on Sept. 26. The Raiders' offensive attack started with a 40-yard drive that led to one of Colby Weishaar's two touchdowns. Aaron Ostendorf then scored one of his four touchdowns before the first quarter ended.
Linemen Nathan Holmes, Kenton Brown, Wyatt Dickey and Drew DeKowski created huge holes for additional scores by Derek Baldwin (2) and Alex Khan.
The Raiders defense, though, set the tone, as Reisterstown running backs were contained most of the night by defensive ends Trey Hicks and Dylan Smith, while linebackers Luke Downs and Colby Owings provided pressure on the ball carriers.
Sykeville Raiders E National
The Raiders played a tough game against the Urbana Hawks resulting in a scoreless tie on Saturday.
The Raiders held the Hawks out of the end zone even though they had first and goal inside of the 5 twice.
The defense was lead by Kevin Foster and Brendan Webster with outstanding work from Garrett Cooper, Brandon Cooper, Emmett Avery and Jake Griffin. Noah Roher intercepted a pass and returned it deep into Urbana territory.
On the last play of the game, Brenden Crouse completed a 30-yard pass to Webster who ran toward the goal but was tackled inside the 20.
Raiders D Federal Black
The Federal D Black team (7-0) continued its unbeaten and unscored upon streak with a 27-0 drubbing at Reisterstown. The Raiders allowed only one first down and held the Mustangs to no yards on the day.
Leading tacklers were Jimmy Lucas and Luke Brandenburg with five apiece and Joey Fusee, Harrison Trostle, Michael Presley and Kevin Gicking with four each. Outstanding linebacker play was turned in by Blake Kissinger, Brandenburg, Fusee, Trostle, Nathan Haerbig and Matt Haerbig.
On offense, seven different Raiders found the end zone. Touchdowns were scored by Trostle, Brandenburg, Lucas and Michael Presley. Extra points were rushed in by Brandenburg and Zach Frizzera, and Kissinger caught one for another. The Raiders amassed 190 yards, led by Lucas (79), and Trostle (58).
Raiders Pitbulls Black Team
The Raiders Pitbulls Black squad hosted the North Carroll Panthers on Oct. 10. The Raiders defense shut down the Panthers all game, led by the tackling of Brett Nastos, Cameron Hagen and Nick Maggio.
The offense moved the ball behind blocking from the line, led by James Galanakis and Bryce Ferguson. Tyler Gemmell had two great runs.
Sykesville Raiders B+ Federal
The Raiders B+ Federal team came out to play at Linganore, and did well despite a 30-25 outcome for the Lancers. The first half was dominated by Frank Vintz running for more than 100 yards. Brian Miller ran for 10 and Wesley Schneider had multiple completions to Dirk Hutchinson and Zack Sill, including a touchdown.
The second half began with Sill, Schneider and Jake Deuber controlling the field with the running game.
The offensive line led by Sill, CJ Beasley, Hutchinson, Swanson, Taiquan Collins and Caleb Vrzak was a force, along with blocks thrown by Austin Twigg.
Michael Grim had a powerful tackle causing a fumble. Henry Ball and Steven Stetcher stopped the Lancers passing game. Matt Achziger came out of no where to intercept a Lancers pass, capping an incredible team effort.
Raiders Federal E3 Black
The Raiders E3 Black team traveled to North Carroll last week. Evan Usi and Peyton Hicks cracked the Panther defense behind the blocking of Greg Tetzloff, John Lemaster, Coby Harrison, Ben Wayland and Jacob Ashby.
James Daly dominated his opponents on defense while Alan Wood applied the pressure and Nick Loppatto recovered two fumbles. Tyler Magruder had an impressive run on his first carry, Ben Carroll made his first touchdown and Wes Kirin was steady at center.
Raiders Pitbulls White
The Raiders Pitbulls White visited Westminster on Oct. 10, and played their best game. The offense clicked with big runs by Logan Custred and Kyle Rizzo setting up touchdown from Jason Hunter, Jordan Stokes and three from Blake Gable. Justin Mintzer also threw to Gable for a 35-yard touchdown.
Fine blocking from Blake Wisnauskas, Max Falconi, Connor Shephard and Chris Gernand kept the Wildcats defense on its heels.
The defensive line of Shephard, Tyler Stratemyer, Hunter Ebert, Dalton Mount and Riley Page made many tackles in the Wildcat backfield, and the linebackers and safety Nathan Crouse made big tackles.
