Cherry in season Baltimore area singer, songwriter and musician Ellen Cherry will perform from 12:30 to 2:40 p.m. at this month's Sykesville Apple Butter Market. The market is held 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at South Branch Park, located at W. Friendship Road and Main St., Sykesville. The market features artisans, crafts, live entertainment, music and food. Spiral into Sunday Westminster's Month of Sundays summer concert series will debut for 2009 on Sunday, 6:45 to 9:15 p.m. with the Baltimore-based modern, classic and dance group, Spiral. The free concert is held at Westminster City Park, 11 Longwell Ave., Westminster. Bring lawn chairs and blankets. Food and beverages will be sold. Donations of personal care items for all ages, baby food, diapers, formula, paper goods or cleaning supplies will be collected for Human Services Programs of Carroll County Inc.

Songs of the Civil War The next Learning Lunch at the Carroll County Farm Museum, 500 S. Center St., Westminster, will be held noon to 1 p.m. Monday, and will focus on music of the Civil War. The father and daughter team of Mike and Laura Medairy will describe music that was popular during the war. Cost is $2; attendees are encouraged to bring a lunch. Light snacks and drinks provided. Couple o' carnivals Two carnivals open on Monday in Carroll County, both continuing through July 11. The Harney Fire Co. Carnival will be held at 5130 Harney Road, Taneytown. Both run 6 to 11 p.m. each night, and both include rides, food, games and entertainment.

Bells Are Ringin' Westminster Library, 50 E. Main St., Westminster, will host a bell choir presentation at 11 a.m. for ages 5 to 17, teaching the use of hand chimes. Participants will learn to play hand chimes. Teens earn Library Bucks for attending. Call 410-386-4488.

Dragon's tale Finksburg Library, 2265 Old Westminster Pike, will host "Draggaar Trilogy: Magical Adventures," at 1 p.m. for ages 7 to 14. Local author Nancy Franzese will talk about "Magical Adventures," the first book in her Draggaar Trilogy, as well as the Web site www.draggaar.com. Books will be available for purchase and signing. Downtown sound The group, YDOUASK will perform this week as part of the evening music concert series on Locust Lane, hosted by Downtown Westminster Main Street. Potter across Carroll Carroll County Public Library will host after-hours movies nights in each of its branches on Friday with showings of the movie, "Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix." The free screenings of the film, which has a PG-13 rating, all begin at 6:30 p.m., and refreshments will be available. Teens can earn Library Bucks for attending. 127 years strong Zion United Methodist Church, 2716 Old Washington Road, in the Village of Shipley, will hold its 127th annual Sunday School Picnic on Saturday beginning with a flea market and craft sale at 8 a.m. Also featured will be fried chicken platters sandwiches, Hoffman's ice cream, soda, watermelon, candy and baked goods on sale, as well as a moon bounce for children. Good, clean music The Westminster High School Marching Band will host a car wash fundraiser on Saturday, July 11, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Westminster Shopping Center parking lot at the corner of Route 140 and Englar Road, Westminster, behind Chick-fil-A. Donations to benefit the band will be accepted.

Family Fun Day River Valley Ranch, 4443 Grave Run Road, Manchester, will host its Saturday Family Fun Day, noon to 10 p.m., with picnic areas, a rodeo, horse riding, hay rides,, swimming and more. For details, call the ranch office at 443-712-1010.

We all scream ... Union Mills Homestead, 3311 Littlestown Pike, Westminster, will hold its annual Ice Cream Sundae Social on Sunday, 1 to 4 p.m. on the homestead grounds. Football camp The Westminster High School football program will host its Youth Football Camp for players entering grades four through nine, July 13-16, 5:30 to 8 p.m. each day. The cost is $65 and includes a T-shirt. The camp will feature speakers, a punt, pass and kick competition, information on proper nutrition and conditioning, instruction and 7-on-7 games. Rockin' summer Mount Airy Library, 705 Ridge Avenue, Mount Airy, will host a practice session for the Wii game, "Rock Band," at 2 p.m. for ages 11 to 17, then a Rock Band Tournament at 3 p.m. Participants will compete against other bands or solo acts.
