Cherry in season Baltimore area singer, songwriter and musician Ellen Cherry will perform from 12:30 to 2:40 p.m. at this month's Sykesville Apple Butter Market. The market is held 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at South Branch Park, located at W. Friendship Road and Main St., Sykesville. The market features artisans, crafts, live entertainment, music and food. Spiral into Sunday Westminster's Month of Sundays summer concert series will debut for 2009 on Sunday, 6:45 to 9:15 p.m. with the Baltimore-based modern, classic and dance group, Spiral. The free concert is held at Westminster City Park, 11 Longwell Ave., Westminster. Bring lawn chairs and blankets. Food and beverages will be sold. Donations of personal care items for all ages, baby food, diapers, formula, paper goods or cleaning supplies will be collected for Human Services Programs of Carroll County Inc.

Songs of the Civil War The next Learning Lunch at the Carroll County Farm Museum, 500 S. Center St., Westminster, will be held noon to 1 p.m. Monday, and will focus on music of the Civil War. The father and daughter team of Mike and Laura Medairy will describe music that was popular during the war. Cost is $2; attendees are encouraged to bring a lunch. Light snacks and drinks provided. Couple o' carnivals Two carnivals open on Monday in Carroll County, both continuing through July 11. The Harney Fire Co. Carnival will be held at 5130 Harney Road, Taneytown. 127 years strong Zion United Methodist Church, 2716 Old Washington Road, in the Village of Shipley, will hold its 127th annual Sunday School Picnic on Saturday beginning with a flea market and craft sale at 8 a.m. Also featured will be fried chicken platters sandwiches, Hoffman's ice cream, soda, watermelon, candy and baked goods on sale, as well as a moon bounce for children.
