Horace Sterling ‘Bud’ Brauning, Jr., 79, of Finksburg, died Monday, Feb. 1, 2010, at his home from an extended illness.
Born August 23, 1930, in Finksburg, he was the son of the late Horace S., Sr. and Anna Matilda Leister Brauning.
He was the husband of Peggy Jean Walker Brauning of Finksburg. They had been married for 59 years.
He was the owner of Brauning’s Real Estate. He was the former owner of B&H Tire Service, Inc. He was a former member of the Roaring Run Lions Club, Piney Branch Country Club and Wakefield Valley Golf Course.
He was a U.S. Navy Veteran.
He was a graduate of Westminster High School and Baltimore Business College. He also attended the University of Maryland. He enjoyed spending time with the ‘Elbow Group”, horse racing, golfing, traveling, playing cards, fishing and his family. He was a member of Calvary United Methodist Church.
In addition to his wife he is survived by son and daughter-in-law Gregory S. Brauning and Robin of Florida, daughters and sons-in-law Sherrine Brauning Bollinger and Mark of Westminster and Dr. J. Michele Brauning and Dr. Scott Wolpin of Bishopville, Md. He is also survived by sister A. Fay Lynch of GA. brothers Gary R. and David L. Brauning both of Finksburg, grandchildren Melissa Brauning-Godek, Shane and Devin Brauning, Ross, Kurt and Hillary Bollinger, Bethany and Samantha Wolpin and great grandchildren McKenzie Godek and Ashlyn Brauning. He was preceded in death by grandson Walker Lee Bollinger.
The family received friends Jeffrey N. Zumbrun Funeral Home, 6028 Sykesville Road, Eldersburg. Funeral services were at the Calvary United Methodist Church, 3939 Gamber Road, Finksburg with his pastor, the Rev, Douglas Hoffman, officiating. Interment was private.
In lieu of flowers, sympathy’s may be expressed in the form of contributions to the Gamber Volunteer Fire Dept., 3838 Niner Road, Finksburg, MD 21048 or to the Calvary United Methodist Church.
