Doris E. Saffron, 89, of Winfield

Doris E. Saffron (nee Euler), 89, of Winfield, died Nov. 14, 2008, at St. Joseph Hospital, Baltimore.

Born June 13, 1919 in Rockdale, Md., she was the daughter of the late John Wesley Euler and the late Edith May Clutz Euler.

She graduated from Catonsville High School, and retired as a secretary for principals for the Baltimore County Board of Education.

She was a lifetime member of Salem United Methodist Church in Hebbville.

She was the wife of the late Robert J. "Bob" Saffron.

She is survived by daughter Barbara L. Snyder of Fenwick Island, Del.; daughter and son-in-law Suzanne and Jerry W. Linville of Winfield; brother and sister-in-law John C. and Justine Euler of Ocean City; and grandchildren Laurie Orfanidis, Wendy Higgins, Jon Linville and their spouses.

She is also survived by six great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by son-in-law Ronald Snyder.

Funeral services were held Nov. 17 at Burrier-Queen Funeral Home & Crematory, PA, Winfield, with the Rev. O.F. "Bud" Kibbe officiating. Interment was in Lake View Memorial Park

Charles E. Gagen, 78, formerly of Sykesville

Charles E. "Chuck" Gagen, 78, formerly of Sykesville, died Nov. 10, 2008, at the Charlestown Retirement Community, Catonsville.

Born Dec. 2, 1929, in Greenport, Long Island, N.Y., he was the son of the late Charles Andrew and Ann Dunnigan Gagen.

He was the husband of Lucy P. Gagen.

He worked as a professional fundraiser with the United Way for many years.

He was a veteran of the 101st Airborne Division of the U.S. Army, and was a member of the Sykesville American Legion.

He was also a member of the Ancient Order of the Hibernians and the Knights of Columbus Council 7612, where he had served as a past grand knight. He was a fourth-degree knight and a member of the Cadiz.

Surviving him, in addition to his wife, are son Charles Edward Gagen Jr. of Glen Burnie; sons and daughters-in-law Timothy and Ann Gagen of Breckenridge, Colo. and Patrick and Vanita Gagen of White Marsh, daughter Kathleen Coleman of Glen Burnie and Margaret Gagen of Portage, Mich.; daughters and sons-in-law Janice Gagen and Dave Cheeney of Fairfax, Va., Eileen and Michael Jaeger of Oak Hill, Va. and Theresa and James Hursey of Finksburg; brothers Bernard Gagen of Walton, N.Y. and John "Jack" Gagen of California; and sister Patricia Cain of Waverly, N.Y.

He is also survived by 15 grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by brother Lawrence Gagen.

A funeral liturgy was held Nov. 14 at the St. Joseph Catholic Church, Eldersburg. Interment will be in Garrison Forest Veterans Cemetery.

Arrangements were by Haight Funeral Home and Chapel, Sykesville.

Oatie Charles Cool, 74, of Sykesville

Oatie Charles Cool, 74, of Sykesville, died unexpectedly Nov. 13, 2008, at his home.

Born Dec. 4, 1933, in Webster Springs, W.Va., he was the son of the late Preston M. and Susan Cochran Cool.

He was the husband of Shirley E. Green Cool of Sykesville, his wife of 50 years.

He had served in the U.S. Army in Germany from 1954-56. He was employed as a heavy equipment operator.

He was an avid fan of South Carroll High School football and West Virginia Mountaineer football. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing and watching NFL games.

Surviving him, in addition to his wife, are son Kevin Cool of Westminster; brother Basil Cool of Painesville, Ohio; sisters Betty Cockerill and Daisy Wood, both of Newark, Ohio; sisters-in-law and brother-in-law Brenda Green Stephens and Jim Stephens of Gamber and Donna Rickle Green; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by children James Michael Cool and Deborah Lynn Cool, father- and mother-in-law Friday and Aulda Green; brother-in-law Keith Green and 11 brothers.

Funeral services were held Nov. 18 at Haight Funeral Home & Chapel, Sykesville, with the Rev. Tom Plunkert officiating. Interment was in Springfield Cemetery, Sykesville.

Concetta C. La Scuola, 80, of Sykesville

Concetta Catherine La Scuola, 80, of Sykesville, died Nov. 8, 2008, at Northwest Hospital Center in Randallstown.

Born March 11, 1928, in Baltimore, she was the daughter of the late Joseph Di Chiara and the late Catherine Palmisano Di Chiara.

She was the wife of the late Samuel La Scuola.

She had been a nursing assistant for many years.

Surviving her are son Joseph La Scuola of Sykesville; son and daughter-in-law and Giovan Mario and Nancy La Scuola of Hampstead; sister-in-law Angelina Di Chiara of Sykesville and grandchildren Sam G. La Scuola and his wife Sarah of Greenfield, Ind., and Joseph M. La Scuola of Hampstead.

She was preceded in death by brother Anthony Di Chiara.

A funeral liturgy was held Nov. 12 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Eldersburg. Interment was in Lake View Memorial Park, Sykesville.

Arrangements were by Haight Funeral Home and Chapel, Sykesville.

Stanley Philip Keasel Jr., 69, of Eldersburg

Stanley Philip Keasel Jr., 69, of Eldersburg, died Nov. 5, 2008, at Sinai Hospital of Baltimore.

Born Nov. 14, 1938, in Middletown, N.Y., he was the son of the late Stanley Philip Keasel Sr. and the late Eleanor Crotty Keasel.

He was the husband of Jill M. Keasel of Eldersburg.

He had served in the National Guard, and worked as a manager with the Social Security Administration. He was a member of American Legion Post 223 in Sykesville, the National Association of Retired Federal Employees and the Social Security Alumni Association.

He volunteered with the Mended Hearts program at Sinai Hospital in Baltimore and at John F. Kennedy Hospital in Florida.

He was a volunteer with Channel 19 in Carroll County and was a member of Holy Spirit Lutheran Church in Eldersburg.

He enjoyed genealogy and was a member of the Terwilliger Family Association and the Huguenot Historical Society, both in New Paltz, N.Y.

Surviving him, in addition to his wife, are son Eric Stanley Keasel and his fiancée Marianne Pandozzi of Falls Church, Va.; daughter Lori Keasel of McLean, Va.; brother and sister-in-law Don and Judy Keasel of Kettering, Ohio; sister and brother-in-law Lynn and Thomas Busse of Middletown, N.Y.; and several brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by son John Patrick Keasel.

Arrangements were by Haight Funeral Home and Chapel, Sykesville.
