George Alfred Leister Jr., 89, of Sykesville, died Oct. 26, 2008, at Howard County General Hospital in Columbia.
Born Dec. 3, 1918, in Baltimore, he was the son of the late George A. Sr. and Catherine Gilbert Leister.
He was the husband of Josephine Leister of Sykesville.
He served with the U.S. Army during World War II. He had been a machinest.
He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Community in Eldersburg.
He had been a Sykesville resident for 50 years. He loved horses, and was a devoted husband, father and grandfather.
Surviving him are daughter and son-in-law Barbara C. and William J. Ritz of Sykesville; grandchildren Kim Ritz, Colleen Becker and her husband Edward, Suzanne Anania and her fiancé Jim, Nicholas Ritz and his wife Karen, Eric Ritz and his wife Penny and David Ritz and his fiancé Sabrina.
He was preceded in death by a brother and a sister, and his wife passed away on Oct. 30, 2008.
A funeral liturgy was held Oct. 31 at St. Joseph Catholic Community, Eldersburg. Interment was in Crest Lawn Memorial Gardens, Marriottsville.
Arrangements were by Haight Funeral Home & Chapel, Sykesville.
