Joan Patricia "Pat" Schroeder, 76, died Oct. 30, 2008, at Sinai Hospital, Baltimore, after a sudden illness.
Born July 27, 1932, in Baltimore, she was the wife of William R. "Bill" Schroeder Sr.
She was the winner of 102 prizes for knitting at the Maryland Sate Fair over the past eight years, 82 of them first place blue ribbons, as well as numerous special recognitions.
She was well known as a craftsperson at the Carroll County Agriculture Center market, having participated there since 1978. Prior to her knitting pursuits she was well-known as a ceramics artisan.
She was a graduate of The University of Maryland and the Notre Dame Institute in Baltimore, and won scholarships to The Maryland Institute of Art and the Peabody Institute of Johns Hopkins.
Surviving her, in addition to her husband, are children Margaret Schroeder, William Schroeder Jr., Howard Schroeder and John Schroeder, Melissa Steele of Littlestown, Pa. and Melanie McGill of West Milford, N.J..
Also surviving her are grandchildren Caitlin and Cutter Steele and Kelly and Eric McGill.
A service of remembrance celebrating her life was held at the Landon C. Burns Hall, at the Carroll County Ag Center, on Nov. 2, 2008.
