Taneytown teens charged for soda bottle bomb incident

State Fire Marshals announced today they charged three teenagers with creating and detonating Jan. 30 a “soda bottle bomb” in the 100-block of Grand Drive,Taneytown.
The three teens — one 14-year-old and two 15-year-olds who live in Taneytown — were charged on Friday, Feb. 26 after State Fire Marshals and the Taneytown Police Department identified them as those responsible for the device, which was set off on a town street between Northwest Middle School and Taneytown Shopping Center.
The boys were charged with manufacture, possession and use of a destructive device, according to a press release issued by the Fire Marshal's Office. The boys were released to the custody of their parents. The case will be referred to Carroll County Juvenile Services authorities. Such devices are known as Improvised Explosive Devices.
Setting off a soda bottle bomb is treated as a felony and charges can be a maximum of 25 years in jail or a fine of up to $250,000, or both.
