TANEYTOWN — Plans for a new Kennie's Markets grocery store are moving forward in Taneytown.
The town Planning Commission on Oct. 26 unanimously approved a concept plan for a new store, located beside the current one at Taneytown Shopping Center. The market must have a final site plan approved before construction can start, said James Wieprecht, zoning and code enforcement officer.
Plans are for a 38,160-square-foot store with 241 parking spaces. Plans show travel lanes will tie in with the existing center.
Kennie's Markets owner, P.K. Hoover, said his company is working out a long-term lease agreement with its spaces and "fully expects something to happen."
"We're already moving dirt and moving expenses to purchase the land," he said in an interview with The Eagle.
He said his plans are in the concept stage and he would reveal details about the new and current space in the coming months.
