This map shows current and future State Highway Administration projects in Carroll County. The state's Department of Transportation recently updated the status of Carroll County roadwork, and introduced a draft 2010 State Report on Transportation that covers fiscal years 2010 to 2015. The state's fiscal year begins July 1 and ends June 30.

A Hampstead Bypass

Relocated Route 30 is a new two-lane limited access highway totaling 5.8 miles from Wolf Hill Drive to Brodbeck Road in Greenmount. The road opened Aug. 6.

Park and Ride lot is in the final stages of completion at routes 30 and 482.

Cost: $83 million

B Taneytown Streetscape

New water and sewer lines, sidewalks, streetlights, roadway is being constructed on Route 140 in three phases. Project is about 50 percent complete, and is expected to be finished in spring 2011.

C Baltimore Boulevard upgrade

Major intersection improvements at from Sullivan Road to Market Street, including overhead pedestrian bridge at Gorsuch Road. Estimated cost: $200 million range. Planning/engineering only funded phase ($1.5 million). Project is on hold.

D Liberty Road streetscape

Improve safety, add continuous right-turn lanes, add raised median curb, widen road and add bicycle and pedestrian enhancements. Project is in engineering phase. Estimated cost: $80 million range; Carroll County contributed $1 million. Another $3.9 million is needed to complete engineering. Project is on hold.

Other projects

1 Widen and resurface Route 27 from Ridge Avenue to north of Center Street. Cost: $3.4 million. Project advertised to start in the fall.

2 Extend left-turn lanes on Route 140 at Sandymount Road. Cost: $1.5 million. Expected to start in spring 2010

3 Apply slurry seal to Route 496 from Saw Mill Road to Wine Road. Cost: $305,000*. Project expected to start spring 2010.

4 Bridge deck replacement on Route 97 over Morgan Run. Cost: $1.1 million. Expected to be completed in November.

5 Construct left-turn lanes and add left-turn phasing to traffic signal on Route 26 at.4 million*. Utility work expected to start in next two weeks and construction starting spring 2010; finished by summer 2010.

6 Construct right-turn lanes on ramps at routes 27 and 140. Cost: $712,000*. Expected to start spring 2010.

7 Provide northbound/southbound left-turn lanes and shoulders on Route 91 at Deer Park Road. Cost: $226,000. Funded for preliminary engineering only. Date TBD.

8 Construct left-turn lane on Route 97 at Stone Road and improve sight distance by adjusting height of road. Cost: $165,000. Funded for preliminary engineering only. Date TBD.

9 Construct streetscape through Hampstead on Route 30 Business from CSX Railroad to Northwoods Trail. Cost: $700,000. Funded for preliminary engineering only. Design is 25 percent complete. Project is on hold.

10 Extend median left-turn lane on Route 140 at Gorsuch Road. Cost: $120,000. Funded for preliminary engineering only. Date TBD.

11 Construct stormwater management facility at Westminster High School to treat portion97. Cost: $454,000. Project to be advertised in spring 2010 and completed in fall 2010.

* Funded by American Recovery and Reinvestment Act federal dollars
