Sykesville will have a chance to officially welcome home “America’s Got Talent” finalist Drew Stevyns in a homecoming parade downtown Oct. 7.
The town of Sykesville announced today that Stevyns will be featured in Century High School’s Homecoming Parade, which is also being billed as Drew Stevyns’ Homecoming Parade, for the Eldersburg singer/songwriter.
“He was just so nice, respectful and humble on the show,” said Ivy Wells, Sykesville’s director of tourism and economic development. “He sets a really good example for the students that, even though you didn’t win, people still want to cheer for you.”
The 29-year-old Stevyns (whose real name is Drew Piotrowski) placed seventh in the NBC show, modeled somewhat after “American Idol.”
He was eliminated early on the Sept. 16 finale in favor of the eventual winner, Kevin Skinner, a chicken catcher from Kentucky who played and sang country tunes.
Stevyns is a 1998 graduate of Calvert Hall College High School in Towson.
Stevyns will not perform after the parade, Wells said, because he has a concert later that evening.
The parade starts at 5 p.m. at Sykesville Middle School, 7301 Springfield Ave., Sykesville, then proceeds down Springfield Avenue to Main Street and ends at the Main Street bridge.
