Residents along Route 32 in Sykesville concerned about safety issues on the roadway are holding a meeting with state highway officials and Howard County homeowner association representatives Thursday, July 30.

The meeting, which is open to the public, will take place at 7 p.m. at the West Friendship Volunteer Fire Department, 12535 Old Frederick Road, West Friendship.

Concerns about safety on the two-lane stretch of road between Route 99 and the border with Carroll County were heightened following a June 23 crash at the intersection of Route 32 and River Road that killed 13-year-old Vincent Dasung Woodward and his mother Kyong Hae "Jennifer" Kim.

State Highway Administration officials said they would inspect the intersections of Route 32 and River Road and Route 32 and Amberwoods Way to see if there were any immediate changes that could be made to improve safety. More detailed traffic studies of the two areas are planned for September.

More information about the residents' efforts is available at www.makeroute32safe.com.
