SYKESVILLE — The state’s Public Safety Education and Training Center, in Sykesville, will soon be the home of Maryland in miniature in the form of a 10-foot by 14-foot mural.

The center will unveil the mural, created by Baltimore artist Dee Cunningham, in a ceremony July 7 at 10 a.m. The three-panel mural depicts various Maryland scenes on a backdrop of the state flag.

The center, located on the Springfield Hospital Center’s 4th Street, is home to the state police and Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services academies as well as the Maryland Police and Correctional Training Commission.

Cunningham has worked with clients throughout the region and recently collaborated with artists for a five-story public art project in Frederick.

She has a degree in art education from Towson University, and studied art at McDaniel College, Maryland College of Art and Design and Pratt Institute as well as in Florence, Italy.
