WESTMINSTER — The environmental study for the proposed expansion of Carroll
County Regional Airport will advance to a public hearing at 7 p.m., Monday,
July 6, in Room 003 of the County Office Building, 225 N. Center St., Westminster.

The environmental assessment, completed by Delta Airport Consultants, looked at several development options being considered at the airport, including: extending an existing runway; building a new, 6,400-foot runway; or doing
nothing.

Other than the no-build alternative, the others include acquisition of property — between 21 and 100 acres — and also would require projects such as the closure or relocation of Pinch Valley Road and the realignment of Meadow Branch Road.

The assessment study is available online at www.ccgovernment.carr.org/ccg/airport/EA/default.asp.

County officials said that after the July 6 public hearing, the commissioners will determine whether or not to continue to the next step toward the airport expansion, which would include permitting, wetland
mitigation and land acquisition.
