The rockets' red, white and blue glares will return to the Carroll County Farm Museum on Independence Day for the annual fireworks display.

The old-fashioned celebration begins at noon and ends with fireworks sponsored by the Rotary Clubs of Carroll County at 9:30 p.m. at the museum, 500 S. Center St., Westminster.

"The sky is lit nonstop," said Joe Legge, chairman of Bonds Meadow Rotary Club, the main organizer of the fireworks display.

Co-sponsor WTTR, 1470 AM, will broadcast from the grounds throughout the day.

Admission between noon and 5 p.m. is $5 for adults, $3 for ages 7 to 18 and 60-plus, and free for children 6 years old or younger with a paying adult. Admission is $6 per car after 5 p.m.

The fun begins at noon where costumed guides will lead tours of the farmhouse until 6 p.m.

Between 1 and 6 p.m., artisans will demonstrate skills that were used in the 1800s. Entertainment will be provided on stage throughout the day by Ray Owens, Carroll County Cloggers, Carroll Jazz Singer and Bootleg.

Wagon rides around the museum grounds led by wagon master Jim Saylor and his mules will be available for a small fee.

A children's area featuring climbing and inflatable games by Fun Events of Taneytown will also be available from noon to 8 p.m. for a fee.

Attendees are reminded to arrive early as Center Street and Kate Wagner Road will be shut down to incoming traffic at 8:30 p.m., and cars could be turned away from the event.

No personal fireworks, smoke bombs, or sparklers will be permitted. Pets and alcohol are prohibited.

While the fireworks are a go for this year, next year is in question.

Typically, it costs the Rotary Clubs of Carroll County a little more than $20,000 to stage the fireworks show. While the fireworks are a part of that figure, the fee also includes the costs of security, rental portable rest rooms and lightning. Legge said the Rotary does have about $10,000 saved "as a cushion" for this year, but has concerns about using it.

Donations of any amount can be sent to the Rotary Clubs c/o Four Seasons, 2720 Hampstead Mexican Road, Hampstead, MD 21074. For more information, call 410-239-6675.
