The State Highway Administration will temporarily close northbound Route 30 in Hampstead this weekend and alternate traffic in the southbound lane.

Traffic will be shifted south of Trenton Mill Road starting 7 a.m. Saturday and will re-open by 7 p.m. Sunday, state highway officials said.

The closure is needed to reconstruct and repave the northbound portion of Route 30 (Hanover Pike) for the southern tie-in of the Hampstead Bypass.

Flag-crews will alternate northbound and southbound traffic in the southbound lane, officials said.

Also, beginning Thursday, the northern roundabout will partially be open to traffic. Drivers will not have access to the bypass until it opens later this summer.

Highway officials encourage drivers to avoid the area during construction.

The overall Hampstead Bypass project is scheduled to be completed this summer, weather permitting.
