A Baltimore developer is planning to turn the Freedom Golf Center into a 30-acre business park.
St. John Properties is proposing to build Liberty Crossing at the former golf center, 438 Old Liberty Road, Eldersburg. The Carroll County Planning and Zoning Commission reviewed the concept plan last week.
The plan calls for two, 16,645-square-foot retail buildings, a 4,000-square-foot bank, a 6,000-square-foot restaurant, two office/warehouse buildings and a 12-pump gas station with a 5,589-square-foot convenience store. Liberty Crossing would have 975 parking spaces, based on the concept plan.
Plans also call for a 46-foot-tall freestanding sign for the center, but planning officials say that will have to be decreased to 30 feet because of the zoning restrictions for that area. The development would have 10 acres of buffer zone for a stream north of the business park, making it 40 acres overall.
Part of the proposal is a relocation of Old Liberty Road for an upgraded entrance.
The developer is reviewing the requested changes and approval could take anywhere from months to a year, said Daphne Daly, Carroll County planning manager.
