For those interested in cheap thrill and chills, the arts council is celebrating the scariest night of the year with several low budget horror movies.
The evening will feature four independent films showcasing horror filmmakers from Maryland and beyond. Several of the filmmakers and cast members will be present to answer questions and talk about creating "indie" horror movies.
Guests are encouraged to come in costume; prizes will be awarded to the best dressed.
The evening will begin with a short serial killer-themed film by Westminster's Ruckus Productions. Then, the trio of feature-length horror films will include:
*"Murder Party," written and directed by Jeremy Saulnier, about a man who attends a Halloween party and discovers the organizers plan to murder someone at random.
*"Deadlands: Trapped," filmed in Hagerstown, written and directed by Gary Ugarek. The movie tells the story of a highly secret chemical weapon that is unleashed on citizens, which turns an entire community into a blood thirsty army of undead.
*"Blood Car," written and directed by Alex Orr, is about a man who invents a car that runs on human blood.
While not rated, the films all carry a suggested rating of "R." Goblins under age 17 must be accompanied by an adult. Doors open at 7 p.m. for the pre-movie costume contest and trivia. The first film begins at 8 p.m.
Tickets are $10 for adults, $8 for students with ID and arts council members. The Carroll Arts Center is at 91 W. Center St., Westminster. Call 410-848-7272.
