Sunday 08-29

Pet project — Animal lovers and furry, feathered or other friends are invited to the Blessing of the Pets service at Ascension Episcopal Church, on Sunday, 10 a.m., on the front lawn of the church, 23 N. Court St., Westminster. This free event will feature individual pet blessings and fellowship. The church will collect donations of pet supplies for the Carroll County Humane Society. Sykesville market — Sykesville's next Apple Butter Market at South Branch Park, at West Friendship Road and Main Street, Sykesville, will be held Sunday, noon-4 p.m. The event includes a farmers market, crafts, live music, children's activities and food. Call 410-795-8959.

Data entry — North Carroll Library, 2255 Hanover Pike, Greenmount, will host a Drop-in Computer Instruction session for adults, from 2-4 p.m. The session will offer help with e-mailing, the Internet, filling out online job applications and more. Call 410-386-4480.

Dance circle — Finksburg Library, 2265 Old Westminster Pike, Finksburg, will host a Family Circle Dancing session, Tuesday, at 6:30 p.m., for ages 3-adult. Learn international folk and circle dances. No experience is necessary. Call 410-386-4505.

Artful 'Tiddlywinks' — "Playing Tiddlywinks with Man Hole Covers" is a mixed media exhibit by Meghan Ambra, McDaniel College Class of 2007, opening Tuesday at McDaniel College's Esther Prangley Rice Gallery in Peterson Hall, 2 College Hill, Westminster. Library harvest — Westminster Library, 50 E. Main St., Westminster, will host the next installment of its Grow It, Eat It series, "Preserve Your Bounty from the Vegetable Garden," on Wednesday at 6 p.m. The program is for all ages, and discusses what to do at different times of the year to make your vegetable garden grow and flourish. Wide AWAKE — Carroll Hospital Center's Sleep Disorders Center is hosting its 14th anniversary Celebration of the AWAKE ( Alert, Well, and Keeping Energetic) program on Wednesday, 7-9 p.m. at The Learning Center on the hospital's campus. The event is held to raise awareness on sleep apnea and teach community residents about the relationship between sleep and health. Free, light refreshments will be served. Thursday 09-02

Musical kids — Taneytown Library, 10 Grand Drive, Taneytown, will host "Music and More" on Thursday at 1:30 p.m., for ages 3-6. Explore music with instruments, dancing, bean bags, streamers and more. With an adult; only children need to be registered. Call 410-386-4488.

'Shrek' at CCC — The fall film series at Carroll Community College, 1601 Washington Road, Westminster, opens Thursday, 8 p.m. with an outdoor showing of the film, "Shrek Forever After," in the college amphitheater. Song of the spouse — Husband and wife country/bluegrass artists Mack Bailey and Rachel Levy will perform Thursday at Baldwin's Station, 7618 Main St., Sykesville, at 8 p.m. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. for dining. Tickets are $20. Call 410-795-1041.

Friday 09-03

September's — 'Gypsy' September Song will present the play, "Gypsy," opening Friday, 8 p.m., at Century High School, 355 Ronsdale Road, Sykesville. Tickets are $10 to $14, and proceeds benefit Change Inc. of Carroll County. Tickets are available online at www.september-song.org, at the door, at Carroll Arts Center or at Little Professor Bookstore. Additional dates are Sept. 4, 10 and 11, at 8 p.m. each night; and Sept. 5 at 2:30 p.m.

Piano tribute — Carroll Arts Center. 91 W. Main St., Westminster, will host a concert by pianist Thomas Pandolfi on Friday, beginning at 7:30 p.m. The performance will celebrate the 200th anniversaries of the birth of three great composers -- Franz Liszt, Robert Schumann and Frederic Chopin. Saturday 09-04

Big breakfast — An all you can eat pancake breakfast will be held Saturday, 7-11 a.m., at Church of the Ascension, Holy Cross Hall, 23 N. Court St, Westminster. Cost is $6 adults; $3 for ages 6 and under. Also a baked goods table. Call 410-848-3251.

Consignment kids — The General Federation of Women's Clubs will host its Junior Woman's Club Kids' Consignment Sale on Saturday, 7 a.m.-noon, at the Carroll County Agriculture Center, Shipley Arena, 700 Agriculture Center Drive, Westminster. Children's clothing, toys, baby equipment and more. Call 410-871-0375.

Creatures of air — Butterfly Bonanza will be held Saturday, 1-2:30 p.m., at Piney Run Nature Center, 30 Martz Road, Sykesville, for all ages. Go for a short walk through the fields and meadows of the park in search of the different butterflies found there. Cost is $5. Call 410-795-6043.

Princely pair — The Children's Theater Production of "The Perils of Two Princes," will be performed Saturday in two shows, 4 p.m. and 6 p.m., in the Scott Center Theater at Carroll Community College, 1601 Washington Road, Westminster. Free. The show is the theater company's fourth annual children's production, and tells the tales of the "Prince Charmings" of both "Cinderella" and "Rapunzel." Free. Go to www.carrollcc.edu. Additional shows are Sunday, Sept. 5, 2 p.m. and 4 p.m.

Sunday 09-05

Union Mills tour — The Union Mills Homestead, located on Littlestown Pike north of Westminster, is open on Sunday for guided tours, noon-4 p.m. The last tour of the day for the homestead and historic mill begins at 3 p.m. The gift shop is also open. For more information, call 410-848-2288.

Monday 09-06

Labor Day run — The Eldersburg Rogue Runners will host its annual Labor Day Rogue Race on Monday, beginning at Liberty High School, Bartholow Road, Sykesville. The 5K race starts at 8:30 a.m. and a 1-mile fun run and walk kicks off at 9:15 a.m. Advance registration is available at www.errun.org. Cost is $25. Race-day registration is available, but T-shirts are not guaranteed for late registration. Awards will be given to the top male and female finishers in the various categories.

Tuesday 09-07

Natural power — Mount Airy Library, 705 Ridge Ave., Mount Airy, will host "Science for Me: Earthquakes, Volcanos and Tornados," for ages 3 to 6, on Tuesday at 2 p.m. Come for a hands-on science experiment. Children age 3 must be accompanied by an adult. Call 410-386-4488.
