Swinging Kat -- SnorkelKat, composed of Skip Smaldone and Carl Fruendel, will perform in Sykesville's free Concerts in the Park series, 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, Aug. 8, at Millard Cooper Park, next to Sykesville Middle School. Christian Concert -- Hilltop Assembly of God Church will sponsor a Christian Concert to raise funds for a Child Survival Project for Compassion International on Saturday, Aug. 9, noon to 8 p.m. at the Carroll County Ag Center in Westminster. Christian bands will perform and there will be speakers, food, crafts and kids' activities such as a moon bounce, face painting, skateboard demonstrations and more. Tickets are $25 at the door, or $20 if purchased by Aug. 8. Ages 12 and under are free. Film with a porpoise -- The final offering in the Summer Kids Series at the Carroll County Arts Center, 91 W. Main St., Westminster, will be the family film, "Flipper," shown at 10:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 14. The 1996 film is rated PG. Coffee house music -- Zi Pani Breads Café, in the Londontown Square Shopping Center in Eldersburg, is hosting local musical talent on Friday and Saturday evenings in August, 8-10 p.m. The following groups will perform: Aug. 8, Upon the Rise Band; Aug. 9, John Feagley; Aug. 15, Anglestone; Aug. 16, The Only Two Band. Sykesville bingo -- is held Fridays at the Sykesville-Freedom District Fire Hall, 6680 Sykesville Road (Route 32). Doors open at 6 p.m.; games begin at 7:30 p.m. Food is available for purchase; call Rob or Kim, 410-795-6039.

Trash into Cash -- The third in the series of four flea markets will be held 8 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 9, in the Carrolltown Center parking lot, Ridge and Liberty roads, Eldersburg. Spaces are $20 if registered by Friday, Aug. 1; $30 after Aug. 1. There will also be a Sept. 6 flea market. All proceeds benefit the Freedom Area Recreation Council. Peaches and Wheels -- On Saturday, Aug. 9, 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., the Carroll County Farmers Market will host its annual Peach Festival at the Ag Center, 700 Smith Ave., Westminster, in conjunction with the Brain Injury Association's Eat-A-Peach Bike Ride, which also starts from the Ag Center. Entertainment will be provided by the General Store Band. Free peach treats and recipes will be provided by market vendors. Baugher's Fruit Stand will make fresh peach ice cream sundaes. Tomato fest -- On Saturday, Aug. 16, the Carroll County Farmer's Market will host the Master Gardeners' Heirloom Tomato Festival, 8 a.m.-1 p.m. Residents are invited to bring in their heirloom tomatoes for taste testing and sharing of seeds and stories. There will also be tomato dishes to sample along with recipes. The market is held at the Agricultural Center, Smith Avenue. Call 410-848-7748.

Double Basket Bingo -- The Freedom District Lions and Lioness will hold the third annual Double Basket Bingo on Saturday, Aug. 23, at the Sykesville Freedom District VFD Hall on Route 32 at Freedom Avenue. Doors open at 9:30 a.m., and all attendees get breakfast. The first bingo session begins at 10:30 a.m., then lunch and dessert will be served. After lunch will be a second bingo session. The event will end by 5 p.m. Breakfast, lunch and 40 games of basket bingo are included with the $40 admission. There will be special games and raffles. The Gate House Museum -- The museum, 7283 Cooper Drive, Sykesville, is open 10 a.m.-6 p.m. on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays, and 1-6 p.m. the first Sunday of each month. Admission is free. Call 410-549-5150.

*Wednesday, Aug. 13, 6 p.m., Managing Your Diabetes, for ages 11-adults. Learn how to live with diabetes and manage blood sugar, blood pressure and cholesterol.

*Saturday, Aug. 16, 11 a.m., Super Smash Saturday, for ages 11-17. A Super Smash Brothers Brawl tournament will be held. Bring a own controllers, labeled with your names. Teens can earn Library Bucks for attending.

*Monday, Aug. 18, 3 p.m., Speed Stacking, for ages 11 to 17. Compete to see who can stack the cups the fastest. Refreshments will be served. Teens can earn Library Bucks for attending.
