"Despicable Me" (PG). Enjoyable 3-D animated family film about a grouchy villain (voiced by Steve Carrell) whose scheme to steal the moon is challenged by three adorable little girls. It's overly busy at times, but does keep you entertained. Grade: B TownMall Cinemas (12:40, 2:55, 5:10, 7:25, 9:40 p.m.)
"Grown Ups" (PG-13). Adam Sandler, Kevin James, Chris Rock, Rob Schneider and David Spade are former junior-high basketball players who reunite many years later at a summer camp. They're middle-aged guys acting like overgrown kids in a formulaic comedy that coasts on its obvious gags. Grade: C TownMall Cinemas (1:45, 4:45, 7:45, 10:15 p.m.)
"Inception" (PG-13). Writer-director Christopher Nolan's overhyped thriller stars Leonardo DiCaprio as a corporate spy capable of entering people's dreams and altering them. Although sensory overload clearly is part of the movie's strategy, many sequences only amount to guys shooting up the place (or the mental space). The intricately plotted story grabs your attention, but does not resonate afterwards. Grade: B- TownMall Cinemas (12:30, 3:40, 6:50, 10 p.m.)
"Predators" (R). Adrien Brody is a mercenary who finds himself mysteriously transported along with other misfits to a planet where the title characters are eager to hunt these humans. Grade: C+ TownMall Cinemas (2, 4:55, 7:50, 10:15 p.m.)
"Ramona and Beezus" (G). Gently engaging comedy about two sisters who occupy different strata in the school universe. Young girls will relate to the challenges posed by sibling rivalry and peer pressure. Grade: B TownMall Cinemas (1, 4, 7, 9:30 p.m.)
"Salt" (PG-13). Not reviewed. Angelina Jolie stars in this thriller as a CIA agent who gets accused of being a Russian spy. TownMall Cinemas (1:30, 4:30, 7:30, 10:05 p.m.)
"The Sorcerer's Apprentice" (PG). This Nicolas Cage-starring, special effects-laden comedy is less than magical, but its story about warring magicians in present-day New York makes for a kid-friendly summer matinee. Grade: C+ TownMall Cinemas (1:15, 4:15, 7:15, 9:50 p.m.)
"Toy Story 3" (G). When the kid who once played with them grows up and prepares to go off to college, his toys confront separation anxiety and an uncertain future. The agreeably voiced animated toys remain endearing, and the "journey home" story exerts emotional pull. Grade: B TownMall Cinemas (1:25, 4:25, 7:35, 10:10 p.m.)
"The Twilight Saga: Eclipse" (PG-13). Bella (Kristen Stewart) is still trying to romantically decide between vampire Edward (Robert Pattinson) and wolfman Jacob (Taylor Lautner) in the third installment. Their triangular angst is front and center, so fans will be drawn to the fire-or-ice debate. Grade: B- TownMall Cinemas (12:50, 3:50, 6:40, 9:25 p.m.)
