SYKESVILLE -- Sykesville's annual Apple Butter Markets are returning for the fourth year with more vendors -- and on a different week of the month.

The market kicks off 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday, June 7, at South Branch Park on West Friendship Road, just across the Patapsco River in Howard County.

The market serves as a fundraiser to restore the warehouse as part of the park's ongoing renovation, said Ivy Wells, Sykesville director of economic development and tourism. The markets feature food vendors, farmers, entertainment and Baugher's apple butter.

This year it will be held on the first Sunday of the month through October and will coincide with the hours of the Gate House Museum of History, 7283 Cooper Drive, and the S&P Railway car at Baldwin Drive and Oklahoma Avenue.

The Shakespeare Factory will return this year with performances at 11:30 a.m.

Each market will also feature a live band, with Pasadena-based band 24karat playing at the opening market. While Ellen Cherry, Safe Harbor, Deadline and The Jenny Leigh Band round out the lineup for the summer.

The weekly Sykesville Farmer Markets will also return later this summer, Wells said, and will probably be moved to a different day of the week instead of Wednesdays. Vendor spaces are available for both the Apple Butter and farmers markets.
