Liberty High School received 14 awards out of 18 nominations at the Cappies Critics and Awards Program gala event May 23 at the Hippodrome Theater, in Baltimore.

Liberty is the first school in Carroll to participate in the National Cappies Program, Baltimore Region. Through the program, theater and journalism students are trained as critics, attend shows at other schools, and write and publish reviews. At the end of the year, the students vote for awards presented at the gala. Liberty students received the following awards:

* Zach Huff and the Liberty sound crew, Best Sound Design.

* Jen Law and the Liberty set crew, Best Set Crew.

* Melissa Cutts, Jessica Girod and the Liberty costume crew, Best Costumes.

* Shane Moran, Best Choreography.

* Liberty make-up crew, Best Make-up.

* Sierra Reeb and the Robotics Team, Best Props and Effects.

* Brian Nupp and Jake Dulling, creativity.

* Katie Reed and the Liberty stage crew, Best Stage Crew.

* Jenna Reed, Comic Actress.

* Jay Koller, Comic Actor.

* Annie Luebke, Supporting Actress in a Play.

* Susan Mueller, Lead Actress in Play.

* Shane Moran, Lead Actor in a Play.

* "The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe," Best Play.

Students from Liberty performed three minutes of "The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe," that evening.

In addition, students Robert Ackerman and Shane Moran participated in the Cappies Singers and Dancers, which opened and closed the show.
