It was shear-ly for charity on Monday as West Middle School in Westminster hosted a hair-a-thon for Locks of Love.

Students had the opportunity to donate 10 inches of hair -- and have it styled as part of the bargain.

Guidance counselor Lyndsay Pyles-Rogers and four students took part in the program. Their hair will be sent to Locks of Love where it will be made into wigs for children.

Locks of Love is a non-profit that provides hairpieces to financially disadvantaged children in the United States and Canada under age 18 suffering from long-term medical hair loss from any diagnosis.

The organization provides help to restore the children's self-esteem and confidence, enabling them to face the world and their peers.

The hair-a-thon at West Middle School was coordinated by Lyndsay Pyles-Rogers to help promote student awareness of their ability to help others.
