Carrolltowne Elementary students and PTA members spent part of Election Day delivering nearly 1,000 books to the Carroll County Human Services office in Westminster.

The books were collected from Carrolltowne families during the students' annual "One for Books" drive.

From Oct. 20 to Oct. 28, students brought in money and new or used books to donate to the program. These books will be used by the Human Services in its holiday fair, Second Chances program and various shelters throughout the county.

Knights cap off year -- In what was supposed to be a year of rebuilding, the Century High School Marching Knights placed second at the USSBA National Championships on Nov. 7 in Annapolis.

The Knights were edged out of first place by title holder, Biglerville. Taking home first place awards for Best Music and Best Percussion while scoring a season high of 93.7, the Knights wrapped up a season that included several first-place awards. The season officially ends with the "Senior Send-Off." This emotional tradition began at the conclusion of the 2004 marching season as a tribute to the graduating members and now continues each year. Band members form an arc around the senior members and play the music to this year's show, "The Way of the Warrior."

Afterward, the seniors quietly take their leave as they pass the torch onto the newest edition of the Marching Knights.

This year's Marching Knights include eight seniors -- Amie Brown, Ted Jacobs, Kimberly McLeod, Cory Novick, Hillary Phipps, Tyler Stephey, Zak Stives and Kara Widerman.
