Students and staff from Robert Moton Elementary School were treated to an assembly last month to highlight the Positive Behavioral Intervention Supports program at their school.
Included in the assembly was motiviational speaker Daryl Smith, who spent 16 years as a professional baseball player with teams including the New York Yankees.
Smith has written an autobiograhpy, "Dreams Do Exist," and he urged the youngsters to be dreamers and set goals for success.
Along with Smith's talk, nine Robert Moton fifth graders performed the story "The Brand New Kid," a book written by Katie Couric.
Songbird Garden -- Robert Moton Elementary School will plant a songbird garden on Friday, Nov. 7. The garden is being planted with the help of a grant from Lowe's.
Board meeting -- The Board of Education of Carroll County will meet on Wednesday, Nov. 12, 5 p.m. in Room 007 of the Board of Education offices, 125 N. Court St., Westminster. The public is invited to attend. The agenda and back-up materials will be available at BoardDocs on the school system Web site, www.carrollk12.org.
'Three Musketeers' -- The swashbuckling epic, "The Three Musketeers," is coming to Westminster. This new adaptation, by playwright Ked Ludwig, is filled with daring heroes, evil villains, romance, intrigue and sword fighting.
Performances will take place Nov. 13, 14 and 15 at 7:30 p.m. each night at Westminster High School. Tickets are $7 and can be purchased at the door. For details call Melissa Purdy, drama director, at 410-751-3630.
Food Drive -- Students and staff at Manchester Elementary School are participating in a food drive, continuing through Nov. 7. The drive is sponsored by the Student Council. Canned and non-perishable food items will be collected in the school lobby and will be donated to a local food bank. Call 410-751-3410.
SCHS vendors -- The South Carroll High School PTSA is seeking vendors for its Holiday Craft Show, to be held 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 15. The cost for a space is $25, table not provided. Reserve a space by e-mailing Vicki at vj1permail@aol.com.
Ensemble show -- The North Carroll High School Ensemble will present a community show on Nov. 5. Doors will open at 6:30 p.m. and the show will start at 7 p.m. Admission is $5 for adults and $3 for seniors and students.
School spirit -- Manchester Elementary will celebrate School Spirit Day on Monday, Nov. 10. Students and staff can sport their favorite sports team jersey, T-shirt, or wear the colors from a favorite sports team or from a team they have played on in the past or present.
