Students and staff at South Carroll High School will host their traditional reception in honor of veterans next Tuesday, Nov. 11. All veterans are welcome to attend. The agenda for the morning includes:

*10 a.m. -- Welcome and reception in the cafeteria.

*10:15 a.m. -- U.S. History students interview veterans.

*10:40 a.m. -- Tribute to veterans in the school auditorium.

*11 a.m. -- Traditional ceremony with playing of "Taps."

'Cheaper' thrills -- Liberty High School will host its production of the funny and touching comedy, "Cheaper by the Dozen," with performances on Nov. 7, 8, 14 and 15 at 7:30 p.m., and matinee performances Nov. 8 and 15 at 2 p.m., in the Schnorr Auditorium at Liberty High, Bartholow Road, Eldersburg. Marching Knights -- The Century High School Marching Knights had two award-winning performances last week. The Knights traveled to Walkersville High School on Oct. 27 and despite wind, rain and freezing temperatures, earned first place in the Group 1 Division with a score of 86.25.

Century's Band then scored an 89.45 at the Chapter 5 Championships at Liberty High School on Nov. 2. Century was awarded the Highest Visual Score as well as Best Auxilary: Color Guard.

Members of Century's Color Guard include seniors and co-captains Kim McLeod and Kara Widerman, junior Bekka Kilroy, sophomore Karen Piecak and freshmen Christina "CJ" Antolick, Kendell Caracciolo, Erica Davis and Brittany Frankel. The Marching Knights travel to the U.S. Naval Academy Friday, Nov. 7, to defend their title as USSBA National Champions.

Holiday Boutique -- Freedom Elementary School's Holiday Boutique will be held Saturday, Nov. 8, 9 a.m. to noon, at Freedom Elementary, 5626 Sykesville Road. The boutique includes 14 vendors, a bake sale, entertainment, games, crafts and a "secret shopper area" for kids.

Board meeting -- The Board of Education of Carroll County will meet on Wednesday, Nov. 12, 5 p.m. in Room 007 of the Board of Education offices, 125 N. Court St., Westminster. The public is invited to attend. The agenda and back-up materials will be available at BoardDocs on the school system Web site, www.carrollk12.org.

SCHS vendors -- The South Carroll High School PTSA is seeking vendors for its Holiday Craft Show, to be held 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 15. The cost for a space is $25, table not provided. Reserve a space by e-mailing Vicki at vj1permail@aol.com.
