Town meeting -- Carroll County Board of Education President Cynthia Foley and Superintendent Dr. Charles Ecker will host a town meeting on Thursday, Oct. 30, 7 p.m. at Westminster Elementary School. (This is a change in date and location from a previous school system announcement.) Members of the community are invited to attend and ask questions or comment on school issues.

Food Drive -- Students and staff at Manchester Elementary School are participating in a food drive, continuing through Nov. 7. The drive is sponsored by the student council. Canned and non-perishable food items will be collected in the school lobby and will be donated to a local food bank. For details call Tiffany Murphy, Dodi Ritz or Martin Tierney, at 410-751-3410.

Parenting conference -- A conference, "Parenting Matters: Raising Successful Children" will be held Saturday, Nov. 1, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Carroll Community College, 1601 Washington Road, Westminster. The conference is co-sponsored by the State Parental Information and Resource Center and Carroll Community College.

Workshops include "My Space and Beyond: Internet Safety for Parents," "What to Do When Your Child is Sick," "Understanding Your Teenager," "Helping Children with Their Homework," "Helping Children Handle Violence and Bullying," and others. Some workshops will be offered in both English and Spanish.

There is no charge for the conference. Child care for young children is available, and children ages 3 to 12 may participate in a children's program focused on recycling, titled "Trash to Treasure." Space in the program is limited.

Runnymede fair -- Runnymede Elementary School will hold a vendor and craft fair Saturday, Nov. 1, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The fair will feature home crafters and vendors including Pampered Chef, Discovery Toys, Tastefully Simple, Melaleuca and others, and the school will receive 15 percent of all profits.
