Approximately 40 gymnasts ranging in age from 8 years old to middle school will perform on Saturday, Feb. 27, in Mount Airy as part of "Gymnastics for Carroll County Youth Services," a fundraiser organized by MidAtlantic Gymnastics of Eldersburg.
Now in its sixth year, the performance features demonstrations in various types of gymnastics including tumbling, trampoline and mini trampoline, acro-gymnastics and more, and has steadily grown a larger and larger following each year.
In fact, the crowds in the past prompted Richard Martin, owner of MidAtlantic Gymnastics, to relocate the event to Skyview Gymnastics in Mount Airy last year.
"They have two levels, and it was packed," Martin said of last year's event at Skyview.
Besides Skyview and MidAtlantic, student groups from gyms in Reisterstown, Columbia and Elkridge will also perform.
Raffles will take place throughout the event, with prizes including gift certificates for various services, stores and area restaurants including Salerno's, Baldwin's Station and Green Turtle.
Martin said the event is truly for a good cause -- children in Carroll County.
"Very few people know there are people out there who need assistance one way or another," Martin said, of the importance of Carroll County Youth Services.
"The purpose of the event is to showcase and support Carroll County Youth Services and to educate the audience to the different types of gymnastics," he said.
Over the last five years, the event has raised just under $10,000 for CCYS.
Gymnastics for Carroll County Youth Services will take place Feb. 27, 6:30 p.m., at Skyview Gymnastics, 2603 Back Acre Circle, Mount Airy.
Tickets are $10 for adults; $5 for children ages 5 to 12; and free for children under 4.
