State Del. Susan Krebs (R-District 9B) of Eldersburg has announced the awarding $34,600 in state scholarships to 33 students in her legislative district.
Awards ranged from $500 to $2,000. Money for the scholarships comes from the Delegate Scholarship Program.
A committee of Carroll County educators evaluated the students based upon leadership, community service, extracurricular activities, academic achievement and work ethic.
Graduating seniors from Century High School receiving scholarships include: Alexander Engler, Alexander Gaines, Samantha Kass, Deanna McKeiver, Daniel Meadows, Heather Morris, Shaun Morris, John Murosko, Richard Parks, Adam Patterson, Ame Roberts, Tyler Stephey, Molly Sweeney and Alyssa Tierney.
Graduating seniors from Liberty High School receiving scholarships are: Robin Alonge, Allison Bradley, Robyn Dozier, Matthew Gillen, Nicholas Hallis, William Ham, Samuel Hill, Christine Hoke, Amy Koman, Eric Lamdin, Jordan Marcucci, Daniel Martinez, Amanda McCracken, Julie Meros, Kara Salaga, Megan Slack, Timothy Souders and Annemarie Triano.
Krebs also awarded a scholarship to Julie Dembeck of Notre Dame Preparatory School.
Shewell, committee name scholarship recipients
State Del. Tanya Shewell (R-District 5A) has announced the awarding of scholarships to 36 students from Carroll County. The scholarships were based on students' financial need, academic record, work and community involvement and extracurricular activities.
A scholarship committee appointed by Shewell made the selections. Students receiving scholarships, listed by the college they will attend in the fall, are:
Carroll Community College -- Heather Jackson and Hannah Miller.
College of Notre Dame -- Melinda Daugherty and Teresa Flaherty.
Frostburg State University -- Matthew Plott.
Hood College -- Andrea Haines.
Loyola College -- Rachel Bacon.
McDaniel College -- Joseph Fink, Robert Herbstsomer, Kate Hudson, Kasey Keefer, Joseph Ottomano, Emily Watcher and Kelly Wunder.
Salisbury University -- Catherine Fitzgerald, Kirstin Inglis, Rebekah MacLean-Blevins, Megan Friia and Vanessa Junkin.
Stevenson University -- Julie Bittner, Joseph Klaus, Kirsten Hviding and Brittany Tobery.
Towson University -- Caroline Martin, Christopher Martin and Bianca Van Horn.
University of Baltimore -- Philip Smith.
University of Maryland Baltimore County -- Jason Smith.
University of Maryland College Park -- Andrew Bratman, Chelsea Davidson, Lauren Hickey, Ryan Kelley, Matthew Miller, Caitlin Moore, Ashley Jordon and Jenna Veerrecchio.
Arts council awards $5,200 in college scholarships
The Carroll County Arts Council awarded eight scholarships through its Tevis College Arts Scholarships fund. The fund was established in memory of patron of the arts, Dorothy Tevis.
The following students were chosen by their schools to receive the scholarship, which is based on artistic promise and financial need. Each student was presented with a $650 scholarship.
Century High School -- Teresa Fredericks, who will attend Mount St. Mary's University to study art.
Francis Scott Key High School -- Sarah Davis, attending James Madison University to study graphic design.
Liberty High School -- Amanda McCracken, who will attend Lesley College studying art therapy.
North Carroll High School -- Sara Norris will attend Towson University studying music education, violin.
South Carroll High School -- Hannah Ehlman will attend Frostburg State University studying art education.
Westminster High School -- Alissa Herman will attend the Maryland Institute of Art to study painting and illustration.
Winters Mill High School -- Nora Hood will attend Hollins University to study creative writing.
Mount de Sales Academy -- Lauren Miller will attend Rochester Institute of Technology, studying medical illustration.
Michael P. Casper of Mount Airy was named to the dean's list at Penn State Erie, The Behrend College, for the spring 2009 semester. Casper is studying engineering.
Anna M. Bosnic, of Marriottsville, is serving an internship at Springfield Hospital Center in Sykesville, this summer as a therapy aide. She is a rising sophomore majoring in biology and theater at Susquehanna University.
Throughout the course of the internship, she will implement a theater therapy program at Springfield and work to help patients build self-confidence and social comfort. Bosnic is a 2008 graduate of Liberty High School and the daughter of Cam and Brenda Bosnic.
Carroll Lutheran Village recently hired Anna Binder as human resources coordinator.
Binder comes to the Village with experience as an HR assistant with a health care company. She has a bachelor of arts degree in psychology and business, and is working on a masters degree from McDaniel College in human resources development.
Hannah Sterling, a sophomore at Wells College in Aurora, N.Y., has been named to the dean's list for the spring 2009 semester. Sterling is a resident of Mount Airy.
