"It really is amazing when you see all the people come together for one cause," said Amanda Milewski, spokeswoman for the event, which was held at the Sykesville/Freedom Dist. Fire Department carnival grounds on June 13.
The event raised $136,114.25 and saw 683 participants, including 92 registered cancer survivors, Milewski said.
She added that about 170 people signed up for the American Cancer Society Cancer Prevention-3 Study — a long-term, nationwide study on people who never have been diagnosed with cancer.
Milewski said the economy and weather were factors in raising less money and having fewer participants than previous years.
However, there is still an opportunity to donate until Aug. 31. Go to www.relayforlife.org/freedommd for more information on how to give.
