Baldwin's Station in Sykesville is gearing up for next week's General Election with a special menu that Chef Eric Yeager created based on election-inspired dining.

"Once we got started, it was a blast to come up with dishes that were either focused on color or historical reference," said Yeager.

The menu features appetizers, entrees and desserts centered around political themes and candidates.

For instance, friends of John McCain can dine on the "Red" menu, which features an appetizer called the George Bush Texas Ranch Hand Salad, the Ronald Reagan Cold War Salmon and the Calvin Coolidge Born on the Fourth of July Pie (a mini stuffed apple pie in buttery pastry with a slice of melted cheddar).

Meanwhile, friends of Barack Obama can pick from the "Blue" menu with its William "Burger Loving" Clinton burger of seared Ahi tuna, an entree called the Franklin "Delmonico" Roosevelt steak and the Jimmy Carter Peanut Farmer's Cheesecake for dessert -- a peanut butter flavored cheesecake served over chocolate sauce.

Stewart Dearie, owner of Baldwin's, said the restaurant will keep a tally of the special pre-fixed dinners to determine whether the majority of tastes run red or blue.

What if you are undecided or Independent?

"Then order a la carte, by all means," said Dearie.

Then, on Nov. 4, he said, "We welcome (patrons) to join us at Baldwin's to either celebrate your victory or drown your sorrows."

On election night, Baldwin's will serve special campaign-oriented drinks as well, including the Ciroc Obama -- a martini made from Ciroc Vodka, or a "Johnnie McCain" sample from Baldwin's 27 offerings of Scotch. Even backers of the Green Party can celebrate with a "Green-tini" made with vodka and melon liqueur.

Darkhorse candidates

Dearie said the restaurant is also welcoming patrons additional suggestions centered around the election season.

"If we think our customers would like it, we'll add it to our menu," he said.

And for fun, Baldwin's will post suggestions for patron reviews and votes. Ideas can be submitted online through Contact Us at www.baldwinsstation.com. The person who submits the menu that gets the most votes will win a free dinner on the house -- though not the White House.

Baldwin's Station (410-795-1041; www.baldwinsstation.com) is located at 7618 Main St., Sykesville.
